What Is My Hero Academia: Memories — And Is It Worth Watching?

What Is My Hero Academia: Memories — And Is It Worth Watching?

The actual season is starting on May 4.

Summary:

  • My Hero Academia: Memories Episode 1 was posted on Crunchyroll, and fans wonder what it is.
  • It’s a recap, which will air for 4 weeks before Season 7.
  • Fans feel it’s quite decent for a recap, although ultimately skippable.

My Hero Academia (Boku no Hero Academia) Season 7 is scheduled to air in the Spring 2024 season. However, that doesn’t mean it will begin in early April like most seasonals do: rather, it will air in May.

That doesn’t mean we won’t get any MHA content in April, though. For the four weeks before the actual start of the new season, My Hero Academia: Memories will air. So what exactly is that, and is it worth watching?

It’s a Recap

First of all, this isn’t actually any new information. We’ve known about My Hero Academia: Memories since the actual air date of May 4 was announced for the seventh season. Still, for most, this was practically unknown until Crunchyroll licensed and posted it.

If you are expecting new content from My Hero Academia: Memories, though, you’d be disappointed. This mini-series is a four-episode recap, airing before the seventh season to presumably fill the timeslot on TV.

Now, My Hero Academia is quite known for recapping its content every now and then. In some of the previous seasons, the first episodes reintroduced the characters once again, acting as a reminder for the viewers.

After all, the cast is fairly huge, and not everyone kept up with all the names and Quirks.

The reception of My Hero Academia recap episodes has usually been less than stellar. Hardcore fans never really want them: they feel like they don’t need to spend an extra episode watching what they already know.

Curiously enough, though, this mini-series has been an exception so far. While fans aren’t outright excited for My Hero Academia: Memories, they aren’t mad about it. There are many reasons for this.

The main one is that it’s not really a part of the seventh season: they already know when the seventh season is coming, and if they don’t need a recap, they can just skip this.

Moreover, the first episode has actually been quite decent for a recap. Instead of introducing Midoriya and other characters once again, it covered more important things to remind you of for the next season.

There’s also the fact that it’s been a while since the last season, so a refresher was actually needed this time. Finally, there are minor new animation cuts and small scenes added to the episodes — nothing plot-relevant so far, but enough to keep the fans entertained.

Is It Worth Watching?

If you want a reminder of what happened so far in My Hero Academia, you can watch this four-episode recap. If you feel like you remember it very well, though, it’s skippable: it doesn’t introduce anything substantially new, although it is still nice.
